I got pulled over for modified exhaust... so according to MD title 22 sub-title 609. Modification that increases sound prohibited.- A person may not modify the exhaust system or any other noise abatement device of a motor vehicle driven or to be driven on any highway in this State in such a way that the noise emitted by the vehicle exceeds that emitted by the vehicle as originally manufactured. its a $70 fine
So why does all these company's claim their exhaust is 100% 50 state legal?

They must have been looking for an excuse to pull you over. I've had two-chamber Flowmasters on my Mustang for almost 10 years now and have never had a problem.

That sucks! I think every pickup truck in the state has modified dual exhaust, plus all the other hot rods in the state, thats a shame, its like holding in the NFL, the refs could call holding on every play if they wanted to.

Considering all the motorcycles and jacked-up trucks with stacks that are deafening those are the ones the pigs need to go after. I don't have to go through emissions due to the county on the Eastern Shore my stang is registered to, but it's only a matter of time I get pulled over for not having cats on my Bassani h-pipe. As much as I get profiled by Harford County and followed to the point where they tailgate me into a 7eleven and watch me get out of my car, it's just stupid. They have better things to do with our tax money.

Hey Jess, I to live in Hazard County. I can vouch for the profiling. I've only had my Stang since July, no exhaust mod's or anything else yet, but just a simple cruise thru Aberdeen for me is an adventure. I get followed like I'm some kinda pied piper!! It was like that when I had my modified 86 12 years ago. Theres a guy here in town with a lifted, and I mean LIFTED chevy truck that nobody says anything to. Most cars in town can drive UNDER that truck, he's so high, yet I can't go to Walmart sometimes without an escort.

Not disagreeing with anyone but the exhaust system modification/noise limit law has always been on the books in Maryland, nothing new, just if the local law officer wants to enforce it. You should have gotten a state inspection repair order also beside the fine if he was really on his game. In the 1970s I got a ticket for the side exhaust on my AAR Cuda & had to prove to the inspection station that it came with side exhaust stock from the factory. The troopers just don't enforce the old law as much as they use to. The deisel pick up truck exhaust, tires past the body line, & lift kit thing is a big problem also that leaves you open to a ticket & inspection RO at anytime the officer wants to pull the trigger on you. Most the time these inspection violations are just a good excuse to pull you over to look for other big things like drugs or alcohal, expired licenses, etc. Stopping one for having the rear of your car raised just 3" from stock bumper height always got you a ticket years ago.

You ask a good question about the AM manufacturers. Just googled this and saw section§ 22-610. Sale of mufflers and other abatement devices. I wonder if the suppliers are in compliance?

(a) Sale of nonconforming devices prohibited.- A person may not sell or offer for sale in this State for use as part of the equipment of a motor vehicle any exhaust muffler, intake muffler, or other noise abatement device that, when installed, will permit the vehicle to be operated in such a way that the noise emitted by the vehicle exceeds that emitted by the vehicle as originally manufactured.

(b) Certificate of compliance.-

(1) The manufacturer of each exhaust muffler, intake muffler, or other noise abatement device sold in this State for use as part of the equipment of a motor vehicle shall file with the Administration a written certification that the particular device, when installed for its intended application, complies with the requirements of this section.

(2) The certification shall be on the form that the Administration requires.

I do believe the OP had his V6 S197 at the time of this? But I do agree on tags and stuff like O/R exhaust, it does say something.

I'd the say vanity plate raised the flag. If your still using the one in your sig. I know mine can be loud because I have the side pipes wide open and they don't know whether it's factory or aftermarket by listening. Did they use a db meter? You might have an edge if they didn't.
