Post subject: Who does SPRING replacement?
PostPosted: Mon Oct 15, 2007 4:05 pm
I've been looking around at some of the other Mustangs and I'm really starting to think about swopping springs and dropping the Car an inch or so. Not a drastic drop just give it a better stance.
I don't want the front end too low. I'd rather have the car level and lower.
But who does spring replacement around Maryland that knows what they are doing?
I'm pretty mechanical but I've never replaced springs on a late model Mustang. Is this something I can do in my Garage with some kind of rented spring compressor or is it just better to get someone to do it -
that has done it before?
Who did you use?
What does it cost in labor?
Thanks for any tips or spring shop names.

My friend and I did my springs in his garage. Just take the tires off and put jack stands holding the back of the car up. Then take a jack and put it under the rear end just holding it up enough to unbolt the rear shocks. From there we just lifted one side of the rear while one of us got the stock spring out from the lowered side. Took about 30 minutes.

Sounds pretty easy. Did you do your springs all the way around or just the rear? What kind of springs did you use? Is the car lower but level or does it have a slight downward rake? How is the ride?
Thanks for the reply.

I used Eibach pro springs in the front and I cut the stock rear ones. The rear is about 3/8 higher than the front. I'm so sorry I waited so long to lower my car. The ride is a little rougher, but mustangs have a tight suspension anyway so you don't notice it. But it does bottom out more easier now. I paid $50 for the front springs and paid my friend $60 for helping. So I have $110 involved in lowering my car, I'm am so pleased with the results. Hope it works out for you! :btu:

Thanks! I really want to get the rear down so it has the same clearance as the front.

After doing some research it appears that just replacing the springs at 66,000 miles is half doing it.... It has been recommended to do the shocks and struts too since they're original. Man, I've got alot of money into this with the body work, paint work, interior parts, exterior parts, radio repair, etc.,etc. ... but... What thet Hec, it sure looks better. I may have to rest after this brake job to afford the lowering ordeal. And I still want to get an exhaust system, too. :headscratch:
