So I have been back in town a few days and my goals were to upgrade my rear gears and do some rear brake work and general maintenance. So today after the AOD trans oil pan came off some metal was left behind. Not just any metal I mean a bearing washer chunk and you could see the machined groves in it. I've opted to R&R a re-man Ford trans w/ a 3 year unlimited warranty. By doing this I hope it will better support my rear gear change and we'll have an added layer of reliability for years to come. So with any project I guess it is a bite at a time.

:yikes: is how I feel now since it is more money that I had budgeted for and eventually I can get my stuff in one sock.

I'm glad to hear that you made it back home in time for the holidays. :btu:

Unplanned and unexpected expensives can be a real kick in the butt especially around the holidays when extra spending money is a true luxury.

But it appears that you have made a prudent choice in taking care of this issue. With metal pieces in the rear end it is obvious that the rear would fail at the most inopportune time. An ounce of prevention is certainly worth a pound of cure!

But we live and learn and for that I hope this will be one of the last said events for a while.

I hope the path I have opted to go down will yield no more issues. Seems the trans that was pulled out of my car may have been a salvage unit, and the torque converter had that special yellow paint pin markings on it. So my car has 49K and I have to wonder what the deal is or was with these transmissions......? Outside the AOD is junk I hope this new one I have will be a worthy choice and not give me any issues for years to come.

Without knowing the history of your car, if you bought it used, there is no way to determine whether the trans was replaced due to hard use. Better to find out now before it leaves you stranded somewhere.

Yes I bought it used and from what I can see it is fully stock I still have the dual cats on it and the factory air box and the rubber cover for the distributor. Now these things don't mean that someone wasn't doing nuetral drops or maybe didn't service the trans and it crapped the bed and so to save a few bucks they replaced it with a salvage unit.....I mean this car didn't have any leaks and what grease and oil that is on the motor bay area is from my experience normal for it's age.

I like it a lot and I hope to really enjoy it once I move back sometime in the first quarter of 2013.

Thanks for listening ya'll I just hate curve balls in a "perfect" world.

I have my car home and it shifted nicely and was tweeked to have it down shift correctly and feels better than before. Although it has been raining I just cruised home and kept it between the white lines, but tomorrow morning I'll go out and see how it really shifts. :3gears:

I've been home about a week.5 and I was able to enjoy the top down on Monday and I look forward to using my car more once I am released to start my new job. I have to leave in a few days to go back to never-never land for a while longer. It is that government :bs: going on now so nuff said.

I'm looking forward to seeing this car in person some day. She would look good at the St. Patrick's Day Parade where she could escort some VIPS around the parade route!

I'd love to attend but I work elsewhere and I am scheduled to return and once I know I'll share and I'll be attending some form of a cruise. I have several things I'd like to accomplish before I go on a long run.

AOD's in stock form can be delicate. I had a Mark VII that I bought with a bad trans. Had another rebuilt with better controls. The hard parts were fine, clutches replaced, Mark VIII servos, etc. That sucker would bark 2nd and 3rd gear if I was getting on it. :burnout: :3gears: And it was an 84 with CFI! Fun car, but it wasn't pretty...
