clay barring

ok...i'm ashamed to say it..but just now tried clay barring for the 1st time and I'm 54....lol. I tried it on the vert 1st then the girlfriends jetta. Wow.is all I can say. I love me some clay bar.

Did it make a visible difference? I know it will smooth out anything on the clear coat, but can you see that difference?

yes Dave. to me it was a noticeable difference. Especially on my girlfriends car .. its the road warrior with all the grime and it looked way better :btu:

Clay barring is essential if you want to really want to get your paint to look its best. Many people who have never used a clay bar often wonder why some cars always look better than theirs. They tell you that they use the best wax but don't see any difference. in truth they are just waxing in the dirt.

Once you've used the clay bar and gotten the deep down surface dirt off of your paint the results can be dramatic.

When you use a new clay bar and it turns black from all of the dirt you can see just how much dirt was really embedded in your paint.

It's springtime and the car show season is upon us again! :banana2:

While I try to keep my car looking sharp all year long I try to start the new season with a complete cleaning of the exterior which includes a clay barring session. Again, this is essential if you want to make your paint jump out at car shows.

Here are some photos of my pre Ocean City detail. This was fairly time consuming as it included a number of steps including, washing the car, clay barring the car, polishing the car with Griot's Complete Compound, Croftgate Project X and finally Croftgate Quick & Slick polish. Three of these steps involved using my Griot's Garage Orbital Polisher.

I will clay bar the car again later this fall before using a Paint Sealant to protect my paint from the salt and road chemicals used during the winter months.

The Red Baron just returned from a long weekend trip to Ocean City where he participated in the Mustang Club of Maryland All Mustang Car Show at Dead Freddie's Restaurant and made a nice showing. He also went on a "seniors cruise" on Sunday to Chincoteake, VA and returned back home after turning 154,100 miles and upping my gas mileage to 21 mpg! :btu:
