Here are some of the photos of the challenge I have to clean up and organize the back of my garage. I should note that we shortened the garage when we first moved in as we had a contractor build us a "Cedar Closet" against the back wall of the garage. This has been a terrific addition to the house as we always needed more closet space and this allows us to switch over our clothing for summer and winter.

Taking a break from my two reorganization projects I decided to detail my car in preparation for the Ocean City Car Show. This will be my first time at Ocean City but I have one and possibly two cars to detail before the Ocean City event so I took this time to detail my own car before I ran out of time to do so.

After washing the car I clay barred the car and than used Griot's Garage Machine Polish 3, a very mild polisher, with my Griots' garage Orbital Polisher to take out the tiny scratches and swirl marks in the paint. To protect the paint I was going to use the Griot's Garage Paint Sealant but decided to use the Meguiars Ultimate Synthetic Liquid Wax and my Griot's Garage Polisher. The results are stunning!

I was hoping to find the perfect lighting but alas I just took photos of the car sitting in the early morning shade. The Meguiars Synthetic Wax has lasted since last September and still beaded! The surface of the car is like glass, sleek and slippery.

I'm just glad that I got the opportunity to get this done before I start working on my next detailing project which will be a real challenge. This is a late model Honda Accord, late 1990's or early 2000's, and the last time it rained was when it was washed! I plan to document this project from start to finish and I'm going to call this the Lazarus Project as I attempt to bring the paint back to life again.

The car looks great....you'll love the OC show. Take a lawn chair and sit along the highway most of the day...you will see at least one of every car you ever wanted!
All that stuff....you'll never have to go to Walmart ever again. LOL

I think you might be right about not having to shop very often for auto detailing supplies John! I've been accumulating as many cleaning, polishing and waxing supplies as I can over the years. Right now I'm pretty much using the Griot's Garage products, especially the ones that can be used with their orbital polishers. The only things I will need to reorder soon are more 6" foam pads used for polishing. I completely burned through two of them helping my brother Alan restore an oxidized canoe. It was a lot of work and I used several different types of machine polish but we were able to clean up a lot of the oxidation.

Since then I located some specialty Marine products used specifically for removing the white chalky buildup on boats. We'll give that product a try after I order more polishing pads.

I'll be staying at a friends condo on Coastal Highway and 69th street not too far from the car show. I will bring my chair as I cannot stand or walk for very long anymore.

Since retiring John and not having to drive very much the car is much easier to keep looking good all year round. :btu:

I'm still working on my garage and laundry room reorganization projects. I'm just doing small areas at a time as I have other things to do besides this project. I'll post more photos as I continue the project. Tomorrow I should be getting the Honda Accord for a week as my friend is going on a cruise. She is leaving the car with me to detail inside and out which I plan to document thoroughly. I can also take my time as this will be a very intensive project. This is your typical daily driver that hasn't been waxed or had the interior cleaned in years. I also will clean up her headlights if they have become fogged.

I'm just hoping that the weather cooperates as I need to do all of this outside in my driveway. This should be educational!

Yesterday I felt in the mood to do a little more garage reorganization. I am doing this a little at a time as it involves a lot of cleaning of individual tools and accessories. My goal for this particular project was to get as many items off of the floor as possible which meant rehanging a lot of my brooms, brushes, lawn trimmers and gardening tools. It also meant that I had to take apart and clean the storage unit that holds a lot of our long handled tools like rakes, shovels, etc.

I'll show you the before picture and than the after pictures as I continue on this quest to clean and reorganize my garage. Note that while these photos show a sense of organization there is a lot of clutter. The next set of photos will show the improvements made by getting as much off of the floor as possible. In fact the two bags on the floor are holding dirty micro fiber towels that I need to take to a laundry center to wash as my wife doesn't want me to use our washer and dryer for this purpose. So these will eventually be folded up and placed on shelves too.

Here are some photos of the cleaned up and de-cluttered area including a cleaned off work bench.

The results are pretty dramatic.
