Post subject:  New poster.

Hi all. I have a 1966 Mustang GT, yesterday I was "attempting" to swap out my points for an Ignitor II system. Well something went fubar because now the engine turns but will not catch. So I changed everything back to points, and still...same deal. I'm curious if the coil may have gone bye-bye so I bought a new one (comes this week), I was wondering what else it could possibly be. Could it be a timing issue, but if it were wouldn't the motor fire but be rough?

Any advice is appreciated, thanks all!!

If you look at your distributor cam it is not round it has corners (high points). The arm has to be resting on a high point in order to set the gap. You can do that by bumping the engine a little and checking.

Yeah if you reverse the wires that will fry the coil. I had the Pertronix system on my 68 for about a year and then the electronics went up and almost left me stranded. I went back to points for the amount that I drive the car and it is running better in my opinion. I had to really advance the timing to get it to run right on the Pertronix ignition.

Dang, well that wasn't it. Good thing I have a "hit man" coming up Sunday to help me :bows:

Funny part was, the points would arc, and they were set right on the high cam lobe. I checked for the .017 gap multiple times...did the go/no-go test and even put a new cap on and re-ran the spark plug wires. My wife (who use to build import motors for the track) said it could possibly be a dead alternator. The AMP gauge was bouncing prior to this, not sure if that could cause it not to start :confused2:
