15/16 socket and a breaker bar ... worked wonders! I probably could give it another few turns to get the wheel closer to the column, but I was getting nervous about stripping it or something so I stopped.

Reconnected the battery and the horn would go off. GAH! Take the horn back appart and bent the 'hook thingy' on the wheel up and out some. It would allow the horn to move more away from the contacts. Put it all back together and reconnect the battery.... no horn! SWEET! It does work if you press the horn button.

Reason why I swapped it out. These cracks would kill my hand after driving around for a while. Not having power steering probably compounded the issue.

Took the new steering wheel back off tonight so that I can put it on straight, one Craftsman steering wheel puller and a 5lb rubber mallet and I'm good to go. CJ Pony parts delivered my steering wheel button finally after it being backordered.
After playing around with the new horn button, trying to get it to seat correctly with the new wheel, I ended up swapping ALL the guts out from the original button to the new button. Hey its worked for 40 years, why not a few more right?
All cleaned up, the new wheel and button just gleem! Its soo purty!!!
Now I'm just waiting for my new front seat parts to show up Tues or Wed.

Just a tech hint for people using a steering wheel puller. Be very careful when putting the puller on the steering wheel shaft. When you start turning the bolts to release the wheel if the puller slips off the shaft it messes up the threads on the shaft and the nut wont screw on properly. If this happens take a small angle file and file the groove between the threads and the nut will restart and go on properly.
