Ok today I took a look at the ignition coil. I got 1.6 ohms across the primary circuit and 14,400 ohms across the secondary circuit. The coil is a Flame Thrower II low resistance model and has a 0.6 ohms labeled on it..and I got 1.6 ohms. So I'm thinking this may be the culprit since everything else looks good. Thoughts? I found something on the web that said most coils will show from 0.75-0.81 ohms on the primary circuit and from 10,000-11,000 on the secondary circuit. So that kinda confirms it also.

Hope that is it because this morning I had to jump my truck to get it started today and it died on us while we were out and had to have it jumped again. So I'm hoping that is just the battery. :banghead:

OK carb has been rebuilt. The only thing we found was the diaphram for the vacuum secondaries was ripped..I suspected that as I never heard the 2 other barrels kick in when I floored it.

So back to it. No change after the rebuild. Bought a new coil, no change. The new coil was not a Pertronix but an ACCEL. I figured if the Pertronix coil was bad this would at least make it run fine. So I'm thinking it must be in the Pertronix module itself. Has anyone trouble shot one of these? Terry I knew you said you've had problems with them what were the problems?

Also how can I tell if I have a reisistor wire in the wire from the ignition to the coil? I've heard there is a bulge in the wire. Is the resisitor close to the coil or close to the ignition? I've looked at the wire from the firewall to the coil and I do not see a bulge. I just want to make sure I got the correct ignition system when I talk to Pertronix. I've read it can be either a 12V or a 6V coil depending on if there is a resistor or not.

My thoughts are if I just ordered one for a 68 and they assumed I had the resistor then they sent me a 6V and if I didn't have it I've been sending 12V to the module and it finally gave up.

Sorry for the long post but I'm just trying to figure this out. I hate not being able to drive Gertie around. Today everyone seemed to have their classics out today and it was killing me.

Ok guys I'm back. I've had time to work on her. Put the new points in and adjusted the timing by ear. I don't have a timing light or dwell meter or whatever it is. But it idles great and will idle in gear and not stall now. However there is still a problem. When I barely touch the gas like to take off normally the car stutters. One suggestion I got from work was the accelerator pump. I made some adjustment to that but it didn't seem to get better.

Any advice?
