Wanted to get some opinions on which if any routes people have taken before to Concord, the usual 95 south is riddled with construction, so was wondering if anyone has taken 85 south or 29 south as a alternate route before, I'm pondering something other than 95 through VA |

There is I-81 through the Valley then take I-77 to Charlotte. Have made that trip many times. The driving time is surprisingly about the same as I-95 option because of Charlotte's location in the state . Plus the Valley is a lot nicer to drive through with places to stop. Just a thought. |

I have to travel a good bit to eastern NC on business, so I've tried a bunch of different routes. If I wasn't meeting up with people on Wednesday morning, I would take I-81 S through Martinsburg, WV and Winchester, VA. However, I would be starting from Hagerstown on the western side of the state. If you're closer to Frederick/Gaithersburg/Rockville, the quickest route would be to take US-15 S to US-17 S and follow that to I-95 S near Fredericksburg, VA. That will let you bypass DC and all its associated construction. From the Baltimore area, though, going all the way west to I-81 or US-15 might add more time to the trip than is necessary. Clear as mud yet? ![]() |

All my suggestions were poo pooed because everybody was worried about construction. It's springtime, the season of the orange cone/barrel... I goto Fredericksburg every couple weeks for the car auction. It's not as bad as everybody has been crying about. Running over to 81, in that time you can be just about to Richmond. It will add time from the Baltimore area.... I have run to 81 on a trip to Alabama. There's even construction on 66 too.... So, if anybody wants to join us we are leaving at 6:30 am Wednesday from the 95/495 park n ride. |
