Identity theft?

Just curious, how many of you have recently experienced some form of identity theft. We found a common place that some of us went to recently and wanted to see if anyone else was hit.

Has your credit card or bank card (visa) been violated lately?

An attemp was made with my bank card (visa) in France a couple weeks ago, and the fraud unit stopped payment immediately (thank god!) was frustrating because my card was cancelled and I had to wait 10 business days to receive a new card, with a new credit card number.

Has anyone had issues recently?

I made and ATM withdrawl from the same ATM as BobT. No problem here.

I work in the Card Fraud Department at a local credit union and you're not alone. This happens to hundreds of people a week just in our financial institution alone. The card #'s are taken and used anywhere from the Walmart in Golden Ring to a gas station in Spain. The problem is, we never really know how they got your card # (unless VISA issues the financial institution a release) and it could've been months or years ago that they obtained the # (depending on when your card was issued). There was a huge breach at Harbor Freight last month where thousands of customers were affected. That is one example that VISA notified us of, however, most of the time, we don't know where the #'s were compromised.

We had 10 people that we know who were hit in the last 3 weeks that all have one place in common that we went to.

Those 10 people should let their banks know that you know the merchant so they can submit a claim to VISA. They will be very grateful! Bob, can you PM the merchant.

My wife and I have had our card information compromised several times over the years and I guess the best way to protect yourself is to purchase a service like Life Lock which supposedly monitors your credit cards and other personal identity items such as your Social Security number etc.
