I spoke to Steve for over an hour on Thursday evening and he really appreciated the phone call and the interest that the club has shown for him. Having had back surgery and also neck problems in the past he and I had a lot in common to talk about. He has contacted a neurosurgeon who he has used in the past to do the neck surgery which will probably be done in Frederick, MD, as that is where his doctor practices.
The club sent him a Get Well gift from Edible Arrangements which really moved him. We talked cars, car shows, his military career and at the end he sounded a lot happier than when I first started talking to him. He could not believe that the club would go out of its way for a relatively new member who usually keeps to himself and doesn't get too involved in club activities. In times like this we are a family and not just a car club and need to comfort our members as best we can.
Hopefully he will keep me posted on his medical condition and I'll let everyone know if I hear anything new to report. He's looking forward to upcoming Car Shows where he plans to show his 2003 Steeda. Having something like that to look forward to really helps you forget the day to day worries over your upcoming surgeries.
