MVA title/registion of kit cars

Anyone have any explicit experience on this?

I am thinking of buying a factory five cobra. The car is already built and has been running/driving/registered in another state as a 1999 FFR (aka Kit Car).

My question (and the MVA pages don't answer it) are:

1. Since it was already registered is it a simple title transfer and registration process or do I need to go through going state police for inspection, going to glen burnie for the specific registration of a kit car, etc...or is that only with new kit builds?
2. Does MVA require kit cars to go through emissions and have to meet the same standards as other 1999 vehicles?

Yeah I read that paid. What I took away from that was how to register it if I built.
It is already registered and has a title from another state....

Been there....Done that.... Maryland sucks! I`ve been down this road with a few cars. Since Maryland considers them new, they must meet 2011 vehicle safety standards including tire pressure monitoring system, air bags and emissions. Yeah right.
Although, There are some loop holes\gray areas in the system.
It can also be registered with tags in Maine. Thats a quick cheap simple solution.

Thats correct. Maryland sucks! I went down this same road with a 1930 Model A because it has a TCI frame. They titled it as a 97. Would`nt pass inspection or emissions. So its titled in another state.

This is off topic a little but I found it amusing. I talked to a guy at car show a couple years ago who had a Ford V8 in a Scion xB. It was registered in Maryland with "Street Rod" plates. To the MVA, a "Street Rod" is a car that is 25 years or older and has been substantially altered from the original design. This guy used a VIN tag off of a '64 Falcon. So as far as the MVA was concerned, this very trick, 2 or 3 year old Scion was a modified Sixites Ford.
