NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series
Matt Hagan and Del Worsham clinched their first nitro championships in the Auto Club Finals in Pomona.
In Funny Car, Hagan's Dodge Charger beat teammate Jack Beckman in the quarterfinals and then Cruz Pedregon in the semis. In the finals, Hagan went 4.009 seconds, 317.79 mph to best (RFC) Robert Hight's 4.031, 318.92 mph in a Ford Mustang. Hagan finished 72 points ahead of Beckman, who qualified eighth in the Valvoline/Aaron's Dodge.
In Top Fuel, Worsham became champ by beating Spencer Massey in the semis. In the finals, he clocked 3.796, 318.02 mph to beat Tony Schumacher's 3.799, 321.50 mph. Schumacher ended the season without a win. Worsham was 58 points clear of Massey for the $500,000 title, the 10th for team manager (RFC) Alan Johnson.
In Pro Stock Motorcycle, Eddie Krawiec's round-two win over (RFC) Hector Arana Jr. locked up his title. In an all-Harley-Davidson final, Andrew Hines won with a 6.814, 196.39 mph lap as Krawiec fouled at the line. His margin over Arana was 90 points.
In Pro Stock, (RFC) Jason Line had already clinched. (RFC) Greg Stanfield's GXP went 6.597, 209.59 mph to defeat Kurt Johnson's 19.886, 44.02 in a GXP. (RFC) Ron Krisher qualified 13th in the Valvoline GXP and lost in round one.
