NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series Sunday's O'Reilly Auto Parts Nationals, near Charlotte, began the six-race championship Countdown. Matt Hagan, (RFC) Antron Brown, Kurt Johnson and Eddie Krawiec were the winners.
In Top Fuel, (RFC) Brown ran 3.784, 325.14 mph vs. Spencer Massey's 4.533, 155.08 mph. Brown leads Massey by 16 points.
In Funny Car, Hagan set the national ET record in NHRA's first class three second lap -- 3.995 seconds -- and the fastest lap -- 322.27 mph. He wasn't able to back-up the speed mark, however. In the finals, his Dodge Charger went 4.130, 301.07 mph vs. (RFC) Mike Neff's 4.431, 202.79 mph in a Ford Mustang. Neff leads Hagan by 22 points. Jack Beckman qualified the Valvoline/Aaron's Dodge fourth and lost to Hagan in the semifinals. Beckman did establish a new class speed mark of 318.99 mph.
In Pro Stock, Johnson's GXP had a 6.545, 210.97 mph lap as (RFC) Jason Line turned on the red light. Line leads Greg Anderson by 31 points. (RFC) Ron Krisher didn't qualify in the Valvoline GXP.
In Pro Stock Motorcycle, Krawiec's Harley-Davidson powered to a 6.870, 196.42 mph win as (RFC) Karen Stoffer fouled at the starting line on her Suzuki. Krawiec tops Stoffer by 63 points.
