NHRA Powerade Drag Racing Series
Doug Herbert, Tony Pedregon, Greg Anderson and Hector Arana were the pro class winners in Sunday's rain-interrupted Summit Racing Equipment Nationals in Norwalk, Ohio. Most of Friday qualifying was lost due to drainage problems in the shutoff area.
In Top Fuel, Herbert got his first victory of the season on a holeshot. He ran 4.636, 311.70 mph vs. Brandon Bernstein's 4.611, 313.58 mph. Tony Schumacher is 253 points ahead of Antron Brown.
In Funny Car, Pedregon's Chevrolet Impala clocked 4.882, 306.26 mph to best Robert Hight's 4.903, 304.74 mph in a Ford Mustang. Tim Wilkerson is 151 points ahead of Pedregon. The Funny Cars of Gary Scelzi and (RFC) Melanie Troxel were disqualified after NHRA tech officials discovered loose ballast. Jack Beckman qualified the Valvoline Dodge Charger fifth but lost in the first round.
In Pro Stock, Anderson's Pontiac GXP went 6.704, 206.04 mph as Larry Morgan red-lighted in his Dodge Stratus. (RFC) Ron Krisher qualified fourth in the Valvoline Cobalt but lost in the first round. Anderson is 52 points up on Kurt Johnson. (RFC) Allen Johnson won Saturday's $50,000 K&N Filters Horsepower Challenge special event for the eight quickest PS teams from the last year. His Dodge Stratus beat Anderson on a holeshot with a perfect .000 reaction time, going 6.725, 204.91 mph vs. 6.717, 204.91 mph.
In Pro Stock Motorcycle, Arana got his first national win. His Buell ran 7.027, 187.60 mph to best Craig Treble's 7.061, 187.83 mph on a Suzuki. Andrew Hines is 81 points clear of Chip Ellis.
